A semi-displacement hulls are more stable than planing hulls, and faster than displacement hulls. These type of hulls are for motor cruisers and trawlers. A semi displacement hull creates a big hole in the water which generates large bow and stern waves. They displaces water at low speeds but is able to generate lift at cruising speed, planes at lower speeds than regular planing hulls
